At The Modern Firm, one of the most fascinating aspects of our work is learning about the infinite variety of law firms. Some firms seem to practice everything, from civil disputes to criminal defense. Some manage to combine seemingly disparate practice areas into a single, seamless practice — usually because the partners work together well (indeed, often they are married or otherwise related) or because a single attorney has a passion for two quite different areas of law. And some have pinpointed niche practices.
Adelman & Gettleman, Ltd. is a prime example of this last group. Since 1983, the firm has offered sophisticated counsel and representation in bankruptcy and insolvency matters. The firm, in fact, effectively grew up alongside the evolving federal Bankruptcy Code, which was enacted just a few years before Adelman & Gettleman was founded, and has grown via amendments since 1984.
As the firm's new website aptly explains, there is an incredible advantage to clients when lawyers across generations specialize in such a niche area. Aside from the hard law, the firm has gained decades of insight into the subtler sides of representing clients ranging from secured lenders to unsecured creditors, receivers, assignees, and bankruptcy trustees.
The Website
The new website is an ultimate online validation tool. For firms like this, Google traffic isn't the goal. Rather, because of their longevity in the field and the nature of the practice itself, clients will almost always come from referrals or name recognition. So the website's primary job is simply to validate the facts: the firm's longstanding involvement in their field, the attorneys' backgrounds and accomplishments, and the precise services offered.
Alongside the text that confirms the firm's history and practice, the design itself needed to embody the firm's personality, as well. Images focus on its location and the home page includes a striking slideshow of Chicago scenes. Indeed, the tasteful rotation of photos further communicates the firm's character: this is not a firm that skimps on technology where appropriate, yet they also don't overdo it — nothing flashes or scrolls across your screen in a way that feels gimmicky or makes text hard to read. Fonts and colors represent both its established nature and its specific brand, drawing on the firm's logo. Navigating is straightforward.
