I had a blast speaking last Friday at the combined Michigan ICLE's Solo Small Firm and State Bar of Michigan annual meeting. Originally I was to present on the essential elements of a solid law firm website. However, over the last few months there has been so much more interested in search engines and website promotion I was able to work a good deal of "how to get on Google" into the presentation. Some of the key take-aways from the presentation were:
- Make sure your law firm's website looks like it was put together professionally with a tight design, professional photos, clear crisp writing, and consistent fonts/colors
- Ensure that your contact information is easy to find on EVERY page
- Search engines only read text and have difficulty making inferences, make sure that they know who you are, where you are, and what you do
- Think of your website as both a marketing tool and a business tool. The business functionality can make your law practice more efficient
