Attorneys John and Mark Nale, partners in the Elder Law Offices of Nale & Nale in Waterville, Maine, found their first elder law case decades ago close to home—helping their aunt and uncle, to be exact. After the brothers helped their family members untangle a legal issue they were struggling with, they looked around and realized there were a lot of older people with similar concerns in the community. Most of those people didn’t have caring nephews who also happened to be lawyers. The Nales never looked back, and have been helping aging Mainers with their planning needs for over 20 years, including estate planning and probate.

John and Mark emphasize that the practice of elder law is about the person being helped as much as it is about the law itself. They believe in forming relationships with their clients and empowering them with knowledge. The COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for the attorneys to offer the in-person meetings and educational seminars they like to offer. That made it more urgent for their website to be updated to serve as a point of contact for their community.

The firm’s website had gone more than a decade without an update, and the attorneys had multiple goals for the site’s revamp: modernize the site, use it to convey the personality and culture of the firm, and provide useful information to clients.

Elder law is such a personal practice area, and relationships and trust matter so much. One way the attorneys wanted to help their clients feel comfortable with them was to offer videos on each of their four primary practice area pages. Not only do the videos offer important resources in an accessible way, they also let visitors to the site “get to know” the attorneys and the firm’s bedrock values: experience, integrity, and compassion.

Hopefully, the pandemic will soon become a memory. Even when it does, the Elder Law Offices of Nale & Nale will have a website that serves as a resource and touchstone for their clients.
